I’m Back by Popular Demand Whether You Like it or not

Hey kids,

I have had some serious writer’s block lately and thus I have not been here for you.  For that I apologize and I will also apologize in advance for the slipshod writing that you will probably encounter in today’s entry.  I have a number of things on my mind none of which really connect to each other.  It’s not really a random thoughts entry, but rather a giant brain explosion where everything that I have been holding in for the past two weeks escapes from my head.  Let me tell you now that it is as painful as you would think.

I am also officially announcing that I am damn sick and tired of facebook.  It’s almost to the point on which I hate it.  When I first joined a couple of years ago it was great and I re-connected with a lot of good friends.  I have also connected with some people that were complete morons and I have since blocked them from my profile.  But I am just sick and tired of reading endless minutiae.  I especially hate it when someone posts some cut and pasted idea on their status and wants you to do so as well.  I just don’t care enough to do so.  I will post photos on there from my upcoming cruise at the request of a very good friend that cannot attend.  Other than that, expect to see substantially less of me on there this year.  (FYI: My Lacuna posts there automatically)

I really despise the political process in this country.  I am sick of the campaigning already.  Frankly I cannot believe that anyone is dumb enough to vote for any of those idiotic republican candidates, but it’s true.  Each and every one of them is a liar and each weekly front runner is worse than the last.  Let me talk first about my incredible disdain for that sweater vest wearing prick, Rick Santorum.  Let’s forget for a moment that the sweater vest look on an adult is ridiculous and look at a recent quote from him.  He said “I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money,” Now to me this is a racist comment, but apparently this plays well with the white people in Iowa.  But what makes it worse is that Santorum denied he made the comment despite the fact that it was recorded.  He claimed he said “blah people”.  What the hell are blah people?  I thought Santorum was Mr. Christian.  Isn’t one of the rules of Christianity is to be honest?  How stupid does it sound for a guy to claim he was saying he didn’t want to the lives of blah people to improve?  There is a big difference between people like Santorum that claim to be a Christian and people like Tim Tebow who are genuine Christians.  I’ll bet Tebow wants the lives of all blah people to improve.

But there is no bigger liar right now than Mitt Romney.  I often check Politifact after hearing some of the stupid statements he and the other lying republican clowns make at their debates/liar’s club meetings.  Here are a few gems from Romney.

He said that the United States is “only inches away from no longer being a free economy.”  Please!  According to Politifact:

“It’s true that the government’s footprint on spending has grown over the past few years, due in large part to the recession. But while the statistics show that the government continues to have a large influence on the economy, there is little indication that the government’s role has risen dramatically enough over the past few years to threaten the kind of free market that the U.S. has operated under in recent decades. And international comparisons show that the U.S. ranks low in both total tax burden and high in economic freedom — at least as measured by a prominent conservative think tank.”

The prominent think tank they reference is the Heritage Foundation and if you are familiar with them at all you would know that you cannot get much more conservative than them.

Then he also said what he would do to cut government spending.  This led to him saying “The number one to cut is Obamacare. That saves $95 billion a year.”  That’s yet another lie. Again, according to Politifact, cutting the health care program would actually increase the deficit by $210 billion.  Romney also claims to be a man of faith, yet his idea to help America is to make sure that the poor and less fortunate go without health care.  How very Jesus-like of him.

This leads me to a story that happened a few weeks ago at the doctor’s office.  I had gone for my regular checkup with my ENT.  I should tell you that my doctor does not have a private practice, but rather works in a six story building with dozens of other doctors.  It’s basically a one stop doctor clinic.  Anyway, the nurse asked me how I was and I said I was fine.  I asked how she was and she said her ear hurt.  I said that it was lucky that she worked in a medical facility and she said that while she could see any of the other ENT specialists there, she did not have health insurance.  It was offered, but was not affordable.  Tell me again why we do not need a national health care program.

The last gem from Romney is this one: “We have to open up markets for our goods,” Romney said. “We haven’t done that under this president…This president has opened up none.”  I guess he overlooked the trade agreements President Obama signed with Panama, South Korea and Columbia.  Prick Romney is just another lying liar wanting to get elected so he can make his rich friends richer, destroy the middle class and make the poor even poorer.

This is what is so sad about the republicans and their supporters: they have no agenda other than to defeat President Obama and they don’t care that they have no agenda.  All they want is power and to get the man who is finally doing something for America out of power.  I’ve written before about how the whole political process needs to be revamped, but nothing will change.  It never changes.  I guess it all comes down to whether or not you want a country that is progressive and helps its citizens.

The republicans are always complaining about taxes.  I have news for everyone: taxes are necessary.  Do you like driving on roads?  Do you like your police department?  How about the fire department?  How about your public library?  What about taking your kids to the park?  Just think people.  That’s all I am asking.  Just think.

Going back to Tim Tebow for a moment I want to say how thrilled I am that he and the Broncos were able to defeat the hated Steelers yesterday.  It’s great that they put them in their place, but let’s remember that this was just one game.  He had a great game yesterday.  The offensive game plan by the Broncos was spot on and the defense, although they tired at the end, was spectacular.  Add to that the defensive calls of Dick LeBeau were horrendous and you have a spectacular game.  If Tebow and the Broncos are able to beat the Patriots this weekend in Foxboro it will be a spectacular upset.  I don’t think it’s going to happen.  Look, I know I hate the Steelers and I like Tebow, but no matter what you think of him you have to admit that he is honest and genuine.  I may not agree with his politics and there is no way I could ever be as religious as he is, but the guy is not a pretender.  He’s legitimate.  I don’t think God plays favorites when it comes to football games, but when you consider the way this world is screwed up and how much hatred there is in this country maybe he/she is spending his/her time watching sports.

Oh look, Alabama is playing LSU for the BCS championship tonight.  Ho hum.  Who cares?  Well I suppose if you are a student or alumni of either school you would be, but for me it means nothing to see these teams play a second time this season.  In fact the whole bowl lineup for this season was awful.  I hardly watched any games.

If you want to see an excellent film please go and see Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.  It is easily the best of all the MI films and you certainly don’t need to have seen the last three to enjoy this one.  It is exciting and well done.  How they filmed the scene on the outside of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai I have no idea and I don’t want to know.  For someone like me who is afraid of heights it was exhilarating to watch and I actually felt like I was going to fall.  It’s an impressive film.  .

Okay, I have babbled enough for today.

Namaste

  1. The Bowl games were a snore this year. I really can’t stand Bama fans (there are a lot of them up here in these parts), so I am rooting for LSU. Thanks for mentioning the public library. 🙂 And I’m so glad the Steelers lost, too. If Tebow can beat Brady, then he may really be magical.

  2. You are afraid of heights? I had no idea.
